- 2 cups (250g) flour + 1 tsp instant yeast + 1 tbsp sugar + ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (comfortably warm, not hot)
- 1 tbsp oil, plus more for frying
- Filling: ⅓ cup brown sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon + 2 tbsp crushed walnuts or peanuts
👩🍳 Method
- Mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt, warm milk and oil into a soft, sticky dough. Knead 3 min, cover, and let it rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Mix the filling. Oil your hands — the dough is sticky and this is normal, not a mistake.
- Divide into 8 balls. Flatten one in your palm, add a heaping tablespoon of filling, and pinch the edges shut like a dumpling. Seal well or the sugar lava escapes.
- Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan on medium. Place a ball seam-side DOWN, wait 30 seconds, then press it flat with a spatula (a hotteok press if you're fancy).
- Fry 2–3 min per side until deep golden. Lower the heat if they brown too fast — the sugar inside needs time to melt.
- Cool 2 minutes before biting. The filling is genuinely molten. Everyone ignores this warning exactly once.
The food never comes — but this time, you make it. 🍳
